GT World Challenge Europe: Season Preview
BLACK FALCON extends its commitment to the GT World Challenge Europe in the 2020 season (formerly known as Blancpain GT Series). The team from Meuspath will field two Mercedes-AMG GT3s in all ten races, which are divided into five endurance and five sprint weekends. As last year, an AMG GT3 will compete in the Pro Class, where it will compete against the best GT3 teams and drivers in Europe. The second AMG GT3 will start in the historically strong Silver Cup class, which is reserved exclusively for drivers with FIA Silver ratings. For the first time in the BLACK FALCON team history a Silver Cup car will compete in both the Endurance and Sprint Cup.
#4 Mercedes-AMG GT3 - Class: Pro - Abril/Engel/Stolz
The BLACK FALCON Mercedes-AMG GT3 #4 will compete in all Endurance Cup races driven by Vincent Abril (France), Maro Engel (Germany) and Luca Stolz (Germany). Engel und Stolz will also race number 4 in the Sprint Cup. After the vice championship in the overall standings in 2019, BLACK FALCON, together with Engel und Stolz, will once again compete for the championship title of the GT World Challenge Europe. In this endeavour BLACK FALCON will be supported by AM Solutions: The AMG GT3 #4 will compete in the colours of AM Solutions at nine weekends. The brand of Rösler Oberflächentechnik GmbH offers machine solutions for the post-processing of 3D-printed components (3D Post Processing), which are individually adapted to customer requirements, regardless of the type of material (metal, plastic, etc.) or the 3D printing technology used. Already last season AM Solutions supported the team as main partner at the 24h race at the Nürburgring and selected VLN races. The successful cooperation between AM Solutions and BLACK FALCON will be further expanded with this commitment in the GT World Challenge Europe.
#6 Mercedes-AMG GT3 - Class: Silver Cup - Afanasiev/Assenheimer/Haupt & Hutchinson/tbd
In the Silver Cup class, BLACK FALCON relies on two different driver combinations this season. In the Endurance Cup races Sergei Afanasiev (Russia), Patrick Assenheimer (Germany) and Hubert Haupt (Germany) share the Mercedes-AMG GT3 #5, with Assenheimer and Haupt being the reigning vice champions in the Silver Cup classification of the Endurance Cup. Together with the new team colleague Afanasiev they want to bring the title to Meuspath this year.
For the first time in the team's history BLACK FALCON enters a Silver Cup car at all Sprint Cup races. For these five events Finlay Hutchinson (Scotland) and his yet to be decided team mate will take the wheel of the AMG GT3 #5, with both Hutchinson and his team mate joining team Black Falcon this season for the first time. Hutchinson gained his first experience in the GT World Challenge Europe last year, while all candidates for the second driver's seat would make their debut this year.
The GT World Challenge Europe: The biggest challenge in GT3 customer sport
The GT World Challenge Europe comprises ten racing events on the most famous tracks in Europe. The championship is divided into two disciplines, each with its own classification: The GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup determines the best teams, drivers and cars in endurance racing. The Endurance Cup consists of a 1000km race, three races over 3 hours and the legendary 24 hour race of Spa. In the GT World Challenge Europe Sprint Cup, the participants compete in five race weekends, each with two one-hour sprint races. To win the overall championship, which combines all the results of both disciplines, the highest level of know-how in all areas and perfect performance in all races are required. The GT World Challenge Europe is considered the most demanding customer sport championship in GT3 sport.
For all qualifying sessions and races, a comprehensive live streaming service including live timing is available on the official website as well as on the GT World Challenge Europe YouTube and Facebook channels.
Sean Paul Breslin (Team Principal BLACK FALCON GT): "I am very pleased about the expansion of our GT World Challenge programme. Thanks to the strengthening of our partnership with AM Solutions we are even better situated than last year. At this point I would like to thank them for the trust they have placed in us. As a team we would like to demonstrate our competence in both disciplines - Sprint and Endurance - once again this season. With the necessary portion of racing luck we can once again fight for the championship in the disciplines and the overall standings and, for the first time, also challenge the overall standings in the Silver Cup. An exciting year with many challenges lies ahead of us - we are well prepared and are looking forward to the start of the season.
