IGTC - Round 5 Kyalami, South Africa
BLACK FALCON enters the last race of the season just one week after the overall victory in the 24-hour race at the Circuit of The Americas in Austin (USA) on the other side of the world. In the final round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge at the South African Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit the Meuspath team will compete in the Silver Cup class with a Mercedes-AMG GT3. Sergei Afanasiev (RU), Patrick Assenheimer (DE) and Hubert Haupt (DE) share the cockpit of the AMG GT3 with start number 6. The participation in the 9h race of Kyalami will be the first race in the BLACK FALCON team history on the African continent.
Mercedes-AMG GT3 #6 - Afanasiev/Assenheimer/Haupt
As with the 24h CoTA, BLACK FALCON races one Mercedes-AMG GT3, which will be competing in the AutoArena Design, which has been extremely successful on the Nordschleife this year. The cockpit will be shared by BLACK FALCON regular drivers Patrick Assenheimer and Hubert Haupt, who have already competed in the five races of the Blancpain Endurance Series together this year. BLACK FALCON newcomer Sergei Afanasiev, who won the European Lamborghini Super Trofeo this year, completes the line-up. The trio competes in the Silver Cup class and wants to achieve class victory and a strong overall ranking.
The race: Resurrection of a Classic
The Kyalami 9h race has a long history and was one of the highlights of the World Sportscar Championship calendar between 1961 and 1982. After extensive modifications, the course near Johannesburg is now 4.522 km long and meets the latest safety standards. As part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, international motorsport is returning to Africa this year with the legendary 9-hour race and is crowning the new IGTC champion there. The starting field is strongly occupied with 28 GT3 vehicles and peppered with the elite drivers of GT sport.
