24h Qualifikationsrennen Nürburgring – Race Report
BLACK FALCON achieved an excellent team result at the 6-hour qualifying race, the last preparation race before the 24-hour marathon at the Nürburgring in four weeks: In changing weather and track conditions the GT3 department achieved two top 10 results with positions 5 (#6) and 10 (#3) and thus the two fastest Mercedes-AMG GT3. In the SP8T class, BLACK FALCON triumphed with the Mercedes-AMG GT4 with starting number 47, while the two Porsche 991 Carrera cars celebrated a double victory in the V6 class. The result was rounded off by third place in the SP10 class and fourth position in the SP8T.
In the Mercedes-AMG GT3 #6, Patrick Assenheimer (Germany), Nico Bastian (Germany), Yelmer Buurman (Netherlands) and Gabriele Piana (Italy) completed a successful test for the 24-hour race in June. Buurman provided a first highlight on Sunday morning and secured the team the pole position in the top 30 qualifying for the six-hour race. After 41 laps, the quartet finished the test race in fifth place overall and was thus the best AMG GT3. The sister car with start number 3 was shared by Maximilian Buhk (Germany), Hubert Haupt (Germany), Thomas Jäger (Germany) and Luca Stolz (Germany). They completed the top 10 of the overall standings as the second best AMG GT3 in the qualifying race. The AMG GT3 with starting number 2 of Maro Engel (Germany), Manuel Metzger (Germany) and Dirk Müller (Germany) could not participate in the race after an accident in free practice.
Yannick Mettler (Switzerland), Maik Rosenberg (Germany), Stephan Rösler (Germany) and Mike Stursberg (Germany) won the SP8T class with their Mercedes-AMG GT4. Starting from pole position, the experienced quartet of drivers left no doubt about the objective of the day and secured the hat-trick in the SP8T with pole position, the fastest lap and class victory. Furthermore, starting number 47 was the best placed car outside the top classes SP-X and SP9. Their team mates Ulrich, Nicolas and Dominik Clemm (all from Germany) crossed the finish line after 37 laps in fourth place in the class - a successful premiere for the father-son team at the wheel of the AMG GT4 in Team BLACK FALCON!
In the V6 class for production cars, the two Porsche 991 Carrera cars completed an outstanding race and, thanks to a great performance by driver and team, clinched a double victory for the BLACK FALCON Team TEXTAR. After a defect in the free practice, the engine of starting number 132 of Martin Meenen (Germany), Carsten Palluth (Germany), Tobias Wahl (Germany) and BLACK FALCON debutant Robert Woodside (Great Britain) had to be replaced during the night from Saturday to Sunday. Thanks to the night shift of the BLACK FALCON mechanics, the car was back in the BLACK FALCON garage on time for the second qualifying session on Sunday morning and worked perfectly throughout the race. With consistently fast lap times, the driver quartet secured second place behind their team-mates Alexander Akimenkov (Russia), Vasilii Selivanov (Russia) and Miguel Toril (Spain), who showed an outstanding performance up to 50th overall, thus making them the fastest car of all production cars.
In the SP10 class for cars according to SRO GT4 regulations Christoph Hoffmann (Germany), Mustafa Mehmet Kaya (Turkey), Tobias Müller (Germany) and Tristan Viidas (Estonia) also successfully prepared for the 24-hour race. At the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG GT4 of the BLACK FALCON Team IDENTICA they completed 37 laps and crossed the finish line in third place in the class. With this they secured BLACK FALCON the fourth podium place of the day.
After this extremely successful preparation, the team and drivers are now looking forward to the highlight of the season, the 24h Nürburgring race from 20 to 23 June 2019.
