Porsche Carrera Cup Germany race 13 & 14: race report Hockenheimring
BLACK FALCON has closed its second season in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany with a good team result. During the seventh race weekend at the Hockenheimring, Carlos Rivas scored the eighth victory of the season in the amateur classification, while Tim Zimmermann moved up from 13th on the grid to an outstanding sixth place overall.
At the final race weekend Tim Zimmermann picked up on his good performances from the Sachsenring and finished Saturday's race in sixth place overall, after starting from 13th place and being able to find his way to the front lap by lap with a phenomenal race to catch up. On Sunday he finished tenth overall.
The 22-year-old improved from race to race in his first Carrera Cup season. At the penultimate race of the season he was on the podium after a great race and finished third overall - his best result of the season. Zimmermann finished third in the rookie classification for Carrera Cup rookies under 25, equivalent to seventh in the overall standings.
Carlos Rivas went to the Hockenheimring with theoretical chances for the championship title in the amateur classification. Despite the eighth victory of the season in Saturday's race, the title race ended for Rivas with the dropping of the chequered flag, because the leader of the standings collected enough points to secure the amateur championship. On Sunday, Rivas finished fifth after an accident in the final lap without any fault on his part. Until the incident, the Luxembourger was on course for another podium finish.
Despite eight victories in the last 10 races, at the end of his second Carrera Cup season he did not quite claim the championship title in the amateur classification after being unlucky during the first two race weekends. Carlos Rivas finishes the season with eight wins and two more podium finishes in second place in the amateur classification.
Sören Spreng experienced a turbulent season finale. In Saturday's race he fought his way forward in the race and was about to make up two more positions when the race entered the final lap. Bumper to bumper, the three cars completed the last lap, but there was no chance of overtaking for Spreng - sixth place in the amateur classification. On Sunday he started well into the race and made up a few positions before colliding with a competitor and damaging the water cooler of his Cup Porsche, so he had to retire early.
In his premiere season, Sören Spreng was once able to finish on the podium. In the third race of the season on the Red Bull Ring he was able to celebrate third on the podium after an overtaking manoeuvre in the last corner. Spreng finishes the amateur championship in sixth place.
BLACK FALCON is competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany for the second season this year.
