Porsche Carrera Cup round 11 & 12: race report Sachsenring
Successful race weekend for BLACK FALCON! Carlos Rivas has won both races of the Porsche Carrera Cup at the Sachsenring in the amateur class. Junior pilot Tim Zimmermann secured his first overall podium position in the Carrera Cup and won the rookie classification in Saturday's race by finishing third. On Sunday he confirmed his strong performance with sixth place overall and second place in the rookie classification.
Tim Zimmermann experienced an all-round successful weekend at the Sachsenring and achieved the best Carrera Cup result of his career. Already in free practice and qualifying the rookie pilot showed that he can drive right up front on the demanding hill-and-valley circuit. Starting from fifth place, Zimmermann advanced to third place in the first corner and defended this position until the end of the race. This not only put Zimmermann on the podium for the first time but also secured him victory in the rookie classification. On Sunday, the 22-year-old started the race from sixth place. After another excellent start Zimmermann fought for a long time for fifth place and victory in the rookie classification. After 19 race laps he finally crossed the finish line in sixth place overall and second place in the rookie classification.
Carlos Rivas once again achieved a perfect weekend at the Sachsenring. The Luxembourger dominated the amateur classification from the first session on and took pole position twice. In addition, he started both races from position nine in the overall classification - his best qualifying performance so far in almost two Carrera Cup seasons. In the races on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning he scored maximum points in the amateur classification with two flawless performances. Thus Rivas secured seven victories in the last eight races and is now in second place in the amateur classification.
For Sören Spreng the eleventh round on Saturday afternoon was already over in the second corner. The 32-year-old started the race from fourth place in the amateur classification and got off to a good start. In the dense bustle at the start he was pushed into the grass in the second corner and turned, whereupon a competitor could not avoid his car and damaged the Porsche. Spreng was unable to participate in the Sunday race after consulting with the race doctor due to an infection.
