Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland round 9 & 10: race report Zandvoort
BLACK FALCON has won the amateur classification of the ninth and tenth races of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland at Zandvoort. After a great race to catch up, the team was also able to celebrate third place in the rookie classification on Sunday, which also meant eighth overall. Saturday's race had to be ended prematurely following a mass accident after a safety car phase. Since less than 50 percent of the race distance had been completed by that time, drivers and teams received no points for the ninth championship run.
Carlos Rivas was unbeatable as early as in the Qualifying. The Luxembourgian started both races from pole position in the amateur classification. In the first race on saturday afternoon he quickly found his rhythm and managed his lead without any problems. By the time the race was neutralised by the safety car, Rivas had already clearly set himself apart from his class rivals and eventually won the ninth race. Rivas got off to a similar start on Sunday morning. In the meantime, a safety car phase melted his lead to a few car lengths, but the 41-year-old ran to the front when the race resumed and extended his lead by more than 25 seconds in the remaining race distance. Rivas narrowed his gap to first and second place in the amateur classification with his victory in Sunday's race.
Tim Zimmermann finished the fifth race weekend of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland with a podium result in the rookie classification and eighth place overall. The rookie driver had started from fourteenth place and worked his way forward in the course of the race with strong overtaking manoeuvres. In the first race of the weekend on Saturday he started from 16th place and was able to build up pressure on his front runners right from the start fighting his way two positions forward until the race was stopped, so he was classified as 14th.
Sören Spreng's weekend went smoothly until the start of the first race. The 32-year-old set the fourth-fastest time in the amateur classification twice in qualifying. In the first race he was hit by a rival a few laps after the start of the race, who spun behind him and then slipped into Spreng's car at the apex of the corner. The car was so badly damaged that the team had to prepare a replacement car for Sunday's race. Shortly before the start of the race on Sunday morning, a small rain shower hit the Circuit Zandvoort. On the road heated by the sun, the water evaporated within a very short time, but the rain provided extremely slippery conditions off the track. Spreng came out of a bend with the left rear tire on a piece of grass and from this point on was only a passenger. After an impact into the track boundary the race was over prematurely.
BLACK FALCON is competing in the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany for the second season this year. With 28 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup entries, the one-make cup enjoys great popularity among fans, drivers and teams. Points will be awarded in three classes on seven race weekends, each with two championship runs over 30 minutes. The overall ranking for all registered drivers is about the championship title of the Carrera Cup. Drivers without a professional background in motorsports compete for the title in the amateur classification, while newcomers who complete their first year in the Porsche Carrera Cup and are younger than 25 years old compete in the rookie classification. This year, the TV station Sport1 will broadcast all Saturday races of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany live on free TV. The Sunday races will be broadcast with a time delay on the evening programme of the same day. In addition, there is a comprehensive live streaming service for all qualifyings and races on the official Porsche website as well as on Facebook and YouTube. Further information on the performance of BLACK FALCON is also available on the teams social media channels on a daily basis.
