At the fourth championship weekend of the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland as part of the AvD Oldtimer Grand Prix, BLACK FALCON won the Sunday race in the amateur classification in front of an impressive spectators' crowd. Carlos Rivas started from pole position and secured a never-endangered start-finish victory after finishing third in Saturday's race. Rookie driver Tim Zimmermann finished tenth overall on Saturday after a strong race to catch up, on Sunday he finished twelfth. For Sören Spreng, the second round at the Nürburgring within a week did not go as hoped. He had to finish both races prematurely in the pit lane.
Carlos Rivas was already the fastest of the amateur drivers in qualifying, which enjoyed a special programme position on late Friday evening this weekend and lasted until after dark, and set his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup to pole position for both races. At the start of the race on Saturday afternoon, he was hit and turned around by a competitor after the second corner. But Rivas didn't let that unsettle him and afterwards showed a remarkable race space. By the middle of the race he had fought his way up to third place, but the two class leaders were already too far away to attack again, finishing third in the amateur classification. On Sunday he completed a flawless race and beat his class rivals by more than 20 seconds. With his third victory of the season Rivas takes third place in the amateur championship.
Tim Zimmermann had an excellent start into the weekend with eighth place in free practice. In qualifying on Friday evening, the 21-year-old did not complete a lap without traffic and thus qualified for 18th place on the grid in both races. Despite the difficult starting position, Zimmermann achieved two good results. In Saturday's race he started very well and after four laps was already listed on position 10 before he was hit and turned around by a competitor. Zimmermann fell back to position 16. In the remaining eleven laps he was the fastest man in the chasing group and worked his way back up to tenth place. On Sunday he fought his way from 18th to 12th place with another very good performance. After eight of 14 races, Zimmermann is now in twelfth place overall and fourth place in the rookie classification.
For Sören Spreng the race weekend did not go as planned. In free practice and qualifying the 32-year-old was well on his way and achieved the fourth fastest times in the amateur classification. During the hectic race start of the seventh championship run on Saturday afternoon, he was hit by a competitor. The impact on a wheel damaged the Porsche and caused an early race end in the pit lane after only two laps. On Sunday Spreng started the race highly motivated and was in a promising position after the first laps. A defect in the closing mechanism of his seat belt meant that safe driving was no longer possible, so he had to park the car in the pit lane.
As early as next weekend, championship races nine and ten will take place at Zandvoort in the Netherlands.
