Strong performance at NLS2 after turbulent season opener
- Hits: 1220
BLACK FALCON crossed the finish line in second place in the highly competitive CUP2 class at the second race of the Nürburgring Endurance Series (NLS) with the Porsche 992 GT3 Cup (#102). The Porsche Cayman GT4 CS (#931) excelled in qualifying with pole position in the CUP3 class. In the sister car (#932), the crew achieved an important result on the way to the Nordschleife Permit A.
BLACK FALCON Team IDENTICA: Second place after a tactical bull's eye
The IDENTICA Porsche 992 GT3 Cup (#102) of Ben Bünnagel, Noah Nagelsdiek and Carlos Rivas started only from eighth position in the strongly occupied CUP2 class of the Porsche Endurance Trophy Nürburgring (PETN) after a wet and extremely challenging qualifying session. Shortly before the race start, the 24.358-kilometer combination of the Nordschleife and the Grand Prix circuit's short connection had almost completely dried out. Despite dark clouds on the horizon, BLACK FALCON decided to use slick tires, which was the right decision as the only team in the CUP2 class. After the first two race laps, starting driver Rivas was already leading the class, while all competitors had to come to the pits for an extra stop to change to slick tires. After a strong performance by all three drivers, the IDENTICA Porsche finally crossed the finish line in an excellent second place. After the accident-related retirement at the NLS1, the season start was thus successful at the second attempt.
BLACK FALCON Team TEXTAR: Pole position and important steps towards Permit-A
At the season opener two weeks ago, BLACK FALCON Team TEXTAR collected important race laps with the #931 Porsche Cayman GT4 CS and drivers Cabell Fisher, Didier Glorieux and Florian Wahl for Permit-A contenders Glorieux and Wahl. Glorieux had already competed twice in the NLS last year and after NLS 1 had achieved the required three results. Therefore, at NLS 2, Fisher and Glorieux shared the cockpit of the Cayman GT4 CS, which had been entered in the amateur classification of the CUP3 class and was now equipped with full power, with Gabriele Piana. The latter caused quite a stir in the rainy qualifying session when he set the fastest lap time of all CUP3 cars with the TEXTAR Porsche. Thus, starting driver Fisher started the race from the pole position of the 2nd starting group. In the course of the race, the trio showed a flawless performance and was well on track within the class. Unfortunately, a driver's seat belt slipped during the first pit stop forcing Glorieux to pit again. The entry over the GP track cost additional time in the process and dashed all hopes of a class podium. After four hours of racing, final driver Piana crossed the finish line in a conciliatory fifth place in the AM classification.
The sister car with the #932 was shared by Daniel Schwerfeld and Florian Wahl. The duo was driving the Cayman GT4 CS in the throttled Permit B specification and crossed the finish line as the best Permit B vehicle in the CUP3 class after a flawless race. Wahl drove a total of 16 laps in two stints, and after his successful NLS premiere on the number 931 two weeks ago, he is only one result short of being granted Permit-A after this weekend.
Alexander Böhm, Team Principal BLACK FALCON:
"We have had a turbulent start to the season in the Nürburgring Endurance Series. After the accident-related retirement at NLS1, we got everything right with the IDENTICA Porsche this weekend. Perfect tactics put us on a podium course within a few laps and the drivers brought the car home in second place without a scratch - a great job by the entire team! We are also quite happy with the two TEXTAR Cayman. With the #932 we have achieved all the goals we set. The pole position of the sister car was a great proof of performance, even if the race unfortunately did not go 100% according to plan.
We are already looking forward to the third round in two weeks and wish all drivers, partners and employees a relaxing Easter."
