Michelin Le Mans Cup - Preview Season 2021
BLACK FALCON is expanding its extensive customer sports programme for the 2021 racing season with a new flagship project and is entering the Michelin Le Mans Cup with LMP 3 prototypes from the French sports car manufacturer Ligier. After ten successful years in GT3 racing, the team from Meuspath is thus entering the prestigious stage of international sports car races, which are organised by the French Le Mans organiser Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO), for the first time. Throughout the debut season, Maik Rosenberg and Donar Munding will take turns at the wheel of the first Ligier JS P320 entered by BLACK FALCON. From the second half of the year onwards, two further JS-P320s will be running both in guest starts in the Le Mans Cup and as part of an extensive test programme.
BLACK FALCON has been able to acquire professional racing driver and TV presenter Lance David Arnold as project manager for the LMP programme. The 34-year-old has already gained experience as a team manager in his own team and is now also available to BLACK FALCON as a brand ambassador and driver coach.
The drivers
Maik Rosenberg has already been a driver for BLACK FALCON in various racing series for a decade and raced successfully on the Nordschleife last year in the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup MR. With Donar Munding, the team has signed a talented young racer for the debut season in the Le Mans Cup, who already drew attention to himself in 2020 with the runner-up title in the German Porsche Super Sports Cup. Long-time BLACK FALCON drivers Mustafa Mehmet Kaya and Gabriele Piana will also be racing in the Le Mans Cup as the season progresses.
Alexander Böhm, Managing Director and founder of BLACK FALCON:
"After more than ten years in GT3 racing, we deliberately looked for a new challenge and found it in the form of the Le Mans Prototypes. The vehicles in the LMP category are pure-bred racing cars designed on the drawing board and offer - especially due to their aerodynamic performance - top-level driving experience. Although the LMP3 category lacks assistance systems such as ABS and power steering, the prototypes are up to five seconds faster per lap than GT3 cars on Grand Prix circuits. The LMP scene is booming at the moment and new, international applications join it every year. This is particularly attractive for our customers who want to pursue endurance racing at a high, international level. After a test phase last winter, we are more than convinced of the LMP concept and have therefore decided on a long-term commitment that will spearhead our customer sports programme for the foreseeable future. Both LMP 3 and LMP 4 test cars will be available for our ever-growing trackday community from June 2021, with approximately 20 dates available for booking during the course of 2021."
