Successful VLN weekend for BLACK FALCON

2018 04 11 slider

Team Black Falcon’s return to the SP9 class in VLN has delivered an excellent second position overall in the second race of the championship, with their #14 Mercedes-AMG GT3 finishing just 8 seconds behind the winner. The AMG led at several points across the four-hour endurance event at the Nürburgring. Hard driving and the quick turnarounds by the pit-crew brought them so close to victory, and #14’s strong finish was supplemented by the second AMG GT3 also taking a top 10 result, a win in the V6 class and another podium in SP10 to backup the SP10 class victory scored in the opening round of VLN.

Three Mercedes-AMG GT3 were entered in SP9. #14 starred Maro Engel (Germany), Manuel Metzger (Germany), Adam Christodoulou (United Kingdom) and Dirk Müller (Germany). The line-up for the #15 Bilstein-liveried AMG, looking stunning in raw carbon with yellow accents, was Luca Stolz (Germany), Thomas Jäger (Germany), Jan Seyffarth (Germany) and Yelmer Buurman (Netherlands). A third AMG, #6, was to be driven by Abdulaziz Al Faisal (Saudi Arabia), Hubert Haupt (Germany) and Erik Johansson (Sweden) but unfortunately wasn’t able to make the start of VLN 2 after problems in qualifying.

Two Mercedes-AMG GT4 competed in the GT4-spec SP10 class. #162 was driven by Alexander Kolb (Germany) and Kim-Luis Schramm (Germany) and finished in fifth position, while Black Falcon Team Identica’s #163 crew of Stefan Karg (Germany), Fidel Leib (Germany) and Moritz Oberheim (Germany) took the second place.

Black Falcon Team TMD Friction’s Porsche entries comprised the V6-class #395 Porsche 991 Carrera with Axel König (Germany) and Norbert Schneider (Germany) alongside the #448 Porsche Cayman in V5 with Uwe Lebens (Germany) and Fidel Leib (Germany). Axel and Norbert took victory in V6 while Uwe and Fidel finished fifth in V5. A third Porsche, the #57 Porsche 991 Cup entered in SP7, was another victim in qualifying and would also not take part in the race.

VLN 2 was the first in a series of back-to-back races for the team. Next weekend they’ll be back at the Nordschleife for the six-hour Qualifying Race that sets up the 24 Hours, and then the weekend after is the opening round of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup at the home of the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix, the iconic Monza circuit.
