- Hits: 3351
This weekend sees one of the highlights of the VLN season: the annual ROWE six-hour event around the Nürburgring, where the usual four-hour race distance is increased by 50 per cent to ramp up the challenge another notch. Team BLACK FALCON return to the SP9 class for this race, entering a solo Mercedes-AMG GT3 that features a stellar line-up: all three drivers are veterans of the Nordschleife and know all its twists and turns. The #7 car stars Hubert Haupt (Germany), Adam Christodoulou (United Kingdom) and Manuel Metzger (Germany). They’ve all put in excellent performances across the races so far this season, and will hope to lock down a strong finish with this new line-up – the team scored pole position at the race in 2016. Team BLACK FALCON are also entering the SPX class with a brand new Mercedes-AMG GT4: this car is fresh from the factory and getting its maiden outing at VLN5. It looks to be fast straight out of the blocks, and will inherit the same speed and reliability as its GT3 big brother. The #52 Mercedes-AMG GT4 will be driven by Stefan Karg (Germany), Fidel Leib (Germany), Alexander Toril (Spain) and Jan Seyffarth (Germany).
A trio of Porsche 911s will be entered under the BLACK FALCON Team TMD flag, with a single 991 in the SP7 class for the fastest 911 GT3 Cups – who can get in amongst the GT3s if the conditions are right – and two 991 Carreras in V6. The #61 Porsche 991 GT3 Cup in SP7 features the driving talent of Jürgen Bleul (Germany), Carsten Knechtges (Germany) and Takis (Switzerland). The first of the two Porsche 991 Carreras in V6 is the #394 car, which will be driven by Thomas Bolz (Germany), Olaf Schlüter (Germany), Aurel Schoeller (Germany) and Miguel Toril (Spain). The sister car is #420, which will have Alexander Akimenkov (Russian Federation), Axel König (Germany), Norbert Schneider (Germany) and Vasilii Selivanov (Russian Federation) behind the wheel.
Following a 90-minute qualifying session that starts in the early morning of Saturday August 19, the mass rolling starts will thunder across the line at midday CET, commencing a full six hours of racing around ‘The Green Hell’. There will be full online coverage of VLN5 available at vln.de/live, which will include detailed live timing and full video streaming of the entire event. There will also be English-language commentary of the race available at both the VLN site and at radiolemans.com.
