Porsche Carrera Cup season halftime at the Norisring

2017 06 30 slider

During the upcoming weekend, the season highlight of the Porsche Carrera Cup Germany will take place in Nuremberg. The championship rounds seven and eight are part of the DTM race weekend at the Norisring. More than 100.000 visitors are expected for the only street circuit event of the calendar. Also, the start of the Sunday race marks the beginning of the second half of the season. As usual, Gabriele Piana (IT), Christian Engelhart (DE) and Carlos Rivas (LU) will be behind the wheels of the three Black Falcon Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars.

The Norisring is not only the sole city track in the race calendar, but with only 2.3 km length the shortest one as well. A lap in one of the 485-PS-strong Porsche-Cup-cars only takes about 50 seconds, but it’s a tough one: The temporary track is used by normal street traffic the whole year and therefore the road is bumpy, making precise driving close to the barriers tricky – but that’s crucial for a good laptime. The fourth race weekend of the Porsche Carrera Cup marks the halftime of the season. After the seventh race on Saturday, the first half of the 14 races containing season will already be over. Start number 4 – Gabriele Piana – RN Vision Team Black Falcon
After the most successful weekend in his Carrera Cup career, Gabriele Piana is looking into scoring great results again: “I’ve never been at the Norisring before, but I get used to the car better each race. It would be ideal, if I could match Christian’s laptimes, as I did at the Red Bull Ring – In that case maybe a top-5-position is possible. Start number 5 – Christian Engelhart – Black Falcon
Christian Engelhart finished both of last year’s Carrera Cup races at the Norisring in third position. Therefore, the 30-year-old is optimistic for the upcoming event: “We want to strike back after the hard weekend at the Red Bull Ring. I already know the track from the last years and I’ve often had a good pace there. The qualifying will be a deciding factor for sure. I’ll do everything I can to get back on the podium.” Start number 6 – Carlos Rivas – Black Falcon
Carlos Rivas is at par with the first placed driver in the amateur-cup-championship. After two victories and three second positions in the previous races, the 40-year-old Luxembourgian travels to the Norisring with mixed feelings: “I’ve never raced there before and could not test beforehand. Nevertheless I’m looking forward to the two races and I’ll try to give my best. I’m sure that Black Falcon set up the car perfectly for the challenging track.
